Do not sleep on this release. One of a few compilation/mix CDs around this moment, this one won’t disappoint. Featuring tracks from artists who have performed at Ipswich’s only Hip Hop night Rapsploitation Sessions it’s clear that Truth and Jimmy Green have good taste in music.

The artist album tracks here are the cream of the crop: Mr. Drastick’s Chemo produced ‘Give it Up’, Def Tex’s ‘Bomber’, SonnyJim’s ‘Next Generation’, Reain’s ‘Rap Game’…the list goes on. It’s great to hear a load of good familiar tracks in sequence as chosen by someone else - saves me ripping and burning my own CD. From an album I’ve not yet heard; Precise Da Analyzer and Dubbledge get hilariously mean on ‘Neverland’ (“You’ll never be friends like Joey’s new sitcom”). Diff’rent Strokes is Back!

That’s right we’re back, it took a bit longer than anticipated but we’ve created a night we’re really happy with!

A New Night and a New Venue and we hope you’ll make it there!

Doors at 8pm with an open Mic from 9pm!

One of the most important hip hop producers of all time, Brooklyn legend DJ Premier makes a much anticipated visit to Smokestack on his UK tour. Perhaps best known as the man who programmed the beats for Jazzmatazz and Gang Starr, Premier is renowned for his trademark East Coast style heavy drums and sparse loops infused with melodic and jazzy samples. Having worked extensively with Nas and KRS-One, his broader list of collaborations reads like a who’s who of hip hop: from MCs like Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Common to vocalists from Janet Jackson and Brandy to Macy Gray, not to mention a vast back catalogue of remixes and solo output. It’s no surprise that “The Source” magazine named DJ Premier one of the 5 greatest producers in hip-hop history.

2 Years Old…

That’s right 2 years old!!

It seems to have flown by and it’s been truly brilliant! You can read about me and Adam in the latest Leeds Student magazine and we’re planning something very soon to say thanks to all you loyal Leeds folks, so get your best clobber washed and ironed!!

Also according to the BT Digital Music Awards we are the 28th most influential music blog in the world so keep on reading and most importantly contributing, the last 24 months have brought so many new people into our lives and we’ve had the privilege of meeting some of our musical heroes too, as well as having the opportunity to contribute to various hip hop related magazines and e-zines.

Diff’rent Strokes will be back very soon and we’re always looking for more people to write & send in music for LHHS and our sister site www.thisishiphop.net so get in touch.

Thanks so much!!
