Homecut – No Freedom Without Sacrifice (REVIEW)

When you put together a  guest list including Soweto Kinch (Mercury Music Prize nominee), Corinne Bailey Rae (Grammy Winner), J-Live (Rawkus / BBE), Andreya Triana (Flying Lotus / Bonobo), John Ellis (Cinematic Orchestra), kidkanevil (Samurai Ninja Master/ Stateless/First Word) and Ty (Mercury Music Prize Nominee), you can be sure that you’ll be churning out a cracking album!!

It’s been a few years since the last Homecut release and the last few years have been some hard graft for Testament, building relationships, gigging and promoting and finally recording this long awaited new album from First Word Records. I still bump the 1st Homecut Directive album to this day where we got to hear the sultry tones of Leeds starlet Corrinne Bayley Rae for the first time, long before the BBC touted her as their one to watch!!

Laid back beats and future soul sounds are the order of the day in this summer-esque album which will be getting popped on the next time the sun shines down on my gaff and I enjoy a few cold ones in the garden. The guest appearances aren’t just there to get another release under their belts but to add their talents to a highly compiled plethora of musicians and artists.

Go get yourself a copy on the 25th May 2009, when it drops – it won’t disappoint.
