So a certain Gallagher brother with a penchant for living back in 1997 spoke out & criticised Jay-Z for headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury a few weeks back, well Noel who is the prick now?
2008 will go down in Glastonbury historical echalons as the weekend that Hip Hop stole the show at the world famous celebration of music and culture. Friday saw Dizzee Rascal & Lupe Fiasco perform “big” sets to thousands of fans showing their usual lyrical dextrerity flipping between the new school and the old with their well known hits and a few collabos in between. Notably Dizzee performing an acoustic version of new track “Dance with Me” with lanky Scot Calvin Harris knee deep in mud for the Beeb.
Saturday saw Wiley popping up with the nerdiest band in years Hot Chip to spit some bars over their cover of “Wearing my Rolex” on the other stage in the evening which had just about half of the Glastonbury faithful jumping and dancing like they were the headliner that night but Jay-Z was a long way off yet.

Jay-Z gave a great set opening with a parody to his Oasis mockers by performing “Wonderwall” before going into a mashed up version of “99 Problems” and dropping hit after hit including “Girls, Girls, Girls” & remixes of “Mundian To Bach Ke” and Goldfrapp, his set was a little down-tempo at times but it was Jay’s first major UK headline appearance at a festival so knowing what will and won’t work for a UK audience is trial & error, but it was a strong performance and it made you realise how much of a strong back catalogue the man has!
So after a stupid drawn out media arguement I think we come back to remember that festivals are a celebration of music and not one genre in particular!
Watch Dizzee and Calvin Harris perform acoustic version of “Dance Wiv Me”

“…a certain Gallagher brother with a penchant for living back in 1997…”
Bit of a typo there surely? Cos it should read 1967 at the latest. The day the monobrowed one is only a decade out of date is the day that hell freezes over.
Anyway haven’t seen a decent video of Jay’s performance yet so if anyone has a link hit me up.
Peace

tis good, tho ill be honest – while jayz has some classic tunes, he also has an awful lot of utter gash, and some of the songs he played had skipping forward to the next one, but things like 99 problems went down a storm and the opening was hilarious.. from what ive seen on youtube he smashed it and the crowd loved him, which is teh main ting…
Yo analogue
this guy has upped the Jay-z vids into 1 place
