DIFF’RENT STROKES: PAT D & LADY PARADOX live 27/02/08
Published by esSDee March 4th, 2008 in Local, News.So it’s true, DIFF’RENT STROKES has a new home in the centre of Leeds at the ELBOW ROOMS. Could it take the best-unsigned talent to this established venue?
After tryin’ to find a parkin’ spot for the MNKY’s fantastically secure Volkswagen Golf (I’ll tell you more in a bit) we arrived at the Elbow Rooms (let it now be known as Rooms). Sat on a speaker with her little kit bag on her knee was my tip for the future, LADY PARADOX aka LADY P aka MISS P aka SWEET LITTLE MISS THING. After climbing the stairway, getting’ her a cider and waiting for PAT to make his way on foot after parking his car in Blackpool we all got on with setting up the sound which eventually came to a stand still when we needed a lead that happened to be back at the house of the sound girl AIWAN (you seriously need to witness this girl spit, but we’ll save that for another night).
So, we needed a lead, and, we needed a car to get it. This is where you find out about the MNKY’s car security system. I offered to drive to AIWAN’s house as I’d only had half a pint, but when the IRN man told me how to get into his V-Dubya I handed the job back in fear of lookin’ like someone trying nick it. This is the drill: open the boot, take the parcel shelf out, lean over the back seats, pop the button, open the rear drivers side door and reach round to lift up the button, then finally, open the drivers door which will then release the central locking system… typical Jonny!
Back to the gig and after me and the HHB King ANALOGUE spun some beats it was time for the best male/female duo since IKE & TINA to hit the rug. With his silky, jazzy beats and underrated crisp style, PAT D is on a mission, and with the girl next door with a different hobby in tow he has the perfect ingredients to make it all the way. You see, the voice of this little rhymin’ angel is mesmerising, males and females present troubles were leaving there thoughts as soon as she started, you only had to wait until half way through the 2nd track and someone was saying ‘she’s good isn’t she’. She’s small, doesn’t look like your ‘average’ mc and best of all boasts an originality that is missing in most female artists at present. As for PAT, he just needs to keep producing the beats we love and make sure there is a follow up album to ‘KIND OF PEACE’, an album you need to get out there and buy; it’ll be in your player for weeks on end. Best track of the night (one of my favourite tracks ever) was ‘TRAIN OF THOUGHT’. The set was like MISS P herself, short, sweet and left you wanting more, so until the next time these two brilliant people grace DIFF’RENT STROKES, I leave you with this thought…
We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace – William Gladstone (1809-1898)
Peace out and see you in March, esSDizzie
