Leeds Hip Hop Scene

One of the most under-rated rappers in the UK scene has released Vol 2 of his well received mix series Play 2 Win. Produced / hosted by Asaviour and mixed by DJ IQ the mixtape boasts a huge host of guests appearances, remixes, exclusives and rarities from TB, DJ IQ, Ric Branson (aka Ricochet), Jehst, Sir Smurf Lil, The Last Skeptik, Dubbledge, Kaspa, Verb T, Yungun, Micall Parkinsun, Apatight and so many more. It’s a shame as Savvy’s easy on the ear flow sadly seems to feel lost on this mixtape, with so many big UK emcee’s on there e.g Jehst, Ricochet and Dubbledge who all seem to steal his thunder. But Asaviours production leaves nothing to be desired, the quality of the tracks is high, and I’m picking out “Beefy” and “Sucker or Savvy” as two great examples of Asaviour and IQ’s work.

Savvy does a decent job hosting the mix-tape and sadly it is marred at times by IQ’s constant neccessity to “reload” every other track, but it is cut and mixed well by the DMC champ.

If anything this mixtape is a promo for the duo’s two up and coming albums “A Loop Theory” and Asaviour’s self produced Netskool Klassiks. Both of which I look forward to reviewing, in the near future…
