Anyone who is anyone in UK Hip Hop has heard of Chester P as a member of both Taskforce and MUD fam he’s an experienced battle rapper with a quick fire flow and excellent freestyle skills, I’m not going to dwell too much on the background to this album but I will mention that about 12 months ago Louis Slipperz studio burnt down and fears were that the tracks had been lost – but luck would have it that the music survived the fire, smoke and firemans hose to be released on Rawdog.
The first track on the album is “Chessmonster” – I’m sure you may have heard this guitar tinged – conscious track – flipping some great multi’s with style and flare.
Another standout track is the recent single ‘Oh No (He Loves A Ho)’ a tale from the lighter & jokier side of Chester P’s personality bringing his usual rapid, skillful flow over Louis Slipperz’s minimalistic-reggae style production. Chester tells a twisted story of falling in love with a working girl but its ok coz she loves his dough. Farma G is also on-hand with his own grimey story to tell over this great Louis Slipperz beat.
The bouncy banjo on “Faith” shows off another great piece of Louis Slipperz production whilst Chester, Farma and Ramson Badbones tear it up with their true to life tales on a solid solo debut album – however for me I’d have liked to have seen a few more collaborations with other UK heavyweights to spice things up a little.

I’ve heard mixed reviews of this. Which is a shame because ChesterP (and Taskforce) is one of the greats of british rap. Taskforce are great but they never quite nail it over a full-length like I feel they can.
Yeah this album isn’t as good as I really hoped to be honest but still worth buying..
I am happy with this album, Chester’s tracks take a few listens to get all there is out of them. I thinkit’s a top album, definately worth a buy.
im glad people speak honestly and all that …. i am aware this is not what some people expected from my solo album and thats a fair observation ….. this was a product i specificly designed to reach people my usual underground psychedelic storytelling has never reached….. i have much more stuff due for release next year and i hope to please all my fans…… this album is in need of an open mind and like the comment from james says may need a couple listens first……. for me i think its a strong album with more to offer than most stuff out there at the minute …. i appreciate some folk wont like it and to them i am sorry but it wasnt for you….. wait for the next few releases due out over next 12 months…….peace and love….ps support the musical revolution that is happening stop downloads and buy your music…..chessmonster
Nah this album was nice throughout. Every track appealed to a different element. And it was a solid product man, heavy twelve tracks no skits, just beats and rhymes. I was looking forward to hearing this for a long time and it definately lived up to my expectations. I’d put this up with Last Skeptik & Verb T’s album for best product this year. Nice work.
think theres a lot to it and still listening. worth having for sure.
sick album from start to finish. that is all.
big-up chester!!
This album is fresh and if you can’t hear that freshness you really need to re-tune your ear drums quickly before you get left behind
classic album, flawless
Heaviest lyrics in a british album….ever. chester p is by far the best lyricist the uk has to offer, man you could take one sentence off any track and spend a long time contemplating each one, its 20 quotes a minute. big up UK heavy hitters like Chester still keeping the torch lit!
