Hezekiah - I Predict a Riot (Review)
Published by Editor October 5th, 2007 in Music Reviews.
No this isn’t another Mark Ronson cover of a Kaiser Cheif’s song, it’s the title of the second album to come from Hezekiah the Philadelphia based MC/Producer.
In his bio he cites influences from country music, Quincy Jones, and Kool G Rap but also in the album you come across more than an esssence of 70’s Funk & Soul. Following the critically acclaimed 2005 debut ‘Hurry up and Wait’, Hezekiah is an artist who revels in being different and a conscious rapper. For this release he has teamed up with the now resurrected “Rawkus” label to put out this slow tempo offering very little for the casual listener, fortunately for Hezekiah he has a lot to say but sadly he is let own by his own self produced beats. The only stand out track for me was when he teamed up with Bilal for the track “Looking Up”. Alot of the time whilst listening to this album I wanted the artist to switch it up a little.
For me, I’ll stick to Lupe Fiasco.
