Percee P - Perseverance (Stones Throw)

Hand’s up all of you who know who Percee P is? Go on honestly put your hand in the air if you actually know about Percee P.
I bet quite alot of you could actually name a collaboration he’s put out or a rare CD or 12 he’s pushed in his 20 year career, thats right 20 years this guy has been pushing out good quality boom bap and only now has he brought out his debut LP! You won’t find him on Radio One or on a cheesy video on MTV anytime soon, this is top quality Boogie Down Bronx that is comparable to artists like the great Kool G Rap.
I don’t think any other title could fit this LP better, Percee P has “Persevered” since his first single in 1988 to the various guests appearences over the years, this album has been a long time coming. From hustling his CD’s on street corners for two decades there was no doubt this debut was going to be big! He’s not screwing around either he linked with Stones Throw and Madlib to produce the entire album. This time Madlib is in “Boom Bap” mode, with simple hardcore beats to let Percee P go off.
Percee P destroys the beats with his rapid delivery, flow and punchlines to hurt any beat such as, `Call me Lucifer, cos I`m a hell of a guy`. The album is straight forward hip hop, hardcore beats and rhymes. It stays true to the roots of hip hop but manages to be very current and fresh.
