Kano - London Town (Review)
Published by Chris September 18th, 2007 in Music Reviews.I’ve been catching up on a few CD review’s this week - more notably the one’s I have used to keep my TV stand level these past couple of weeks, watching Jeremy Kyle on a slight diagonal is enough to make anyone want to go on a killing spree. So we come to the worst album this year from the “grime” heavyweights Wiley, Dizzee and Kano. I don’t want to sound so cynical but this is the most contrived piece of shite to grace my new stereo.
Kano has approached his second album with a distinct lack of originality and a huge helping of hypocrisy as he tells us he isn’t out there making pop music but managed to team up with the cheesiest artist in the UK “urban scene” - to grind out the nausea inducing “This is the girl”.
If I have one piece of advice for any Hip Hop fans out there don’t buy this album unless you are going to use it as a coaster or like I do to keep Jezza on a horizontal.
If you enjoy this site, why not buy us a pint?

Unforunatli i agree with Chris’ review. After HOME SWEET HOME, i have been waiting a long time for this album. But as u can guess, was very dissapointed. Dont get me wrong, every single tune is not a wast of time, there are definatli some clever lyrics popping up, but not nearly half as good as the 1st album. Definatly a download,… Or use a voucher you got for your birthday. Do not spend ur hard earned cash on it.
don’t worry d. Being the level-headed and fan of quality music that I am I wouldn’t even consider buying something by ANY grime artist other than maybe Dizzee Rascal (even that is at a stretch).
Grime music is the scourge of the earth. People with the lowest levels of intelligence are the only ones who truly enjoy it while everyone else walking past them and hearing them play it on their £30 mobile phones just points and laughs.
Is there a grime song that has been made yet that doesn’t contain the phrase ‘Brrrrrat’?
Sorry Adam I’ve really got to disagree with you on that one. I’m no expert on Grime but I don’t think you can cuss the whole genre - I’ve got a couple tracks at least (JME, Virus Syndicate) that I really rate and the sound of grime as a whole has a lot of potential.
Your last comment is equivalent to the assumptions that are often made about Hip-Hop - that “It’s all about bitches and bling…” and I’m sure none of us want to support that kind of thinking, do we?
I’m with Analogue(JME is the king)
ye fair nuf kano, wiley and dizzee all were better to begin
they have gone downhill
but you can’t judge grime on the mainstream
just like you can’t do with hip hop
the mint thing is its home bread
you should be proud that its in your country
and its the realest rawest shit around
you can’t get this hardcore honesty in fucking middle class indie
my mobile cost £15 quid
but my rhythm cost fuk all
wots ur point?
low income does not equal low intelligence in music taste
and you kno wot?
its pretty damn sik to krump to!
you seem to have completely missed my point. Yes, I was writing off the whole genre, but you assume I don’t KNOW the genre. You are talking as if I’m some idiot who knows nothing about grime. I have tried many times to get into it and yes, there are a few exceptions, as there are in all genres of music, but as a whole the genre is very poor quality. I know a lot of underground grime and I don’t judge it on its mainstream representation at all.
And anyone who accuses me of saying that shpiel about ‘bitches and bling’ obviously doesn’t know how deep I am into this type of music. I have endured countless accusations like that myself and wouldn’t accuse it of another type of music. Its my opinion. I think Grime is rubbish. You think different. There’s no point trying to say I’m wrong, because I don’t think I am.
And in response to that ‘low-income’ bs. You made that assumption, not me. I was just being observant of the typical person i see EVERYDAY in huddersfield on my estate that listens to grime.
And by the way, I know very well the work of JME and Virus Syndicate, and I’m not impressed with either.
Both Kano and Wiley have failed to produce after previously putting out good solid work in the past.
When it comes to grime I have very little time for it, and I know of many people who went into grime a few years ago who are now coming out and making proper Hip hop music.
Thats nice
KAnos new album is bangin starrr especially da track london town ya dunno woiii and kano is pengggg aswelll
