Wisdomtooth catches up with DJ T-Breaks from Fresh Jive.

How long has Fresh Jive been going for?

It ran from 97-2000 weekly Saturdays at the Faversham
then reformed in 2004 til present day

On your myspace it says Fresh Jive is a community event. How do you get
local talent involved and what role do you play in helping the local scene
grow?
Fresh Jive works, moves and lives in the community, Shane Fenton (10 Tonn)
owns 50% of Fresh Jive, he has been teaching breakdancing in the community
for 10 years.  We have given local acts a high profile platform in Leeds
that has been lacking for some time.  Leeds acts were not given that
opportunity and promoters only seemed to focus on the students,  we
concsiously went to change that and look after Leeds first as best we
could.

Who’s your favourite breaking crew?
10 Tonne’s favourites are Rock Force Crew or The Flipside Kings  - im sure
you will see em at Fresh Jive fingers crossed

How important is student interest to events such as your own?
Very important, since moving to the University the students have embraced
what we do and started to get involved, so we can all learn from each other
and move fresh jive n bboyin forward.  We are really proud to be a part of
the University now after puttin on so many events across the city.  Fresh
Jive is established as a club for all ages and backgrounds.

Who do we need to look out for in the Leeds Hip Hop Scene?
Double D Dagger, Ghetlow Pirates, Kockee K, Afro Physics, Invizible Circle
there is a wealth of talent out there

What can we look forward to in 2007?

We have some classic hiphop acts coming to play,  some of the worlds
finest bboy crews,  some different dance styles to introduce to Leeds and
were also about to start schooling the under 18s in the art of battle to
ensure Leeds can represent on a world scale in the future.  Fresh Jive is
making sure Leeds stays on the map.  Europes number 1 regular bboy night
keeping the culture of hiphop moving forward as best we can.
