Pat D & Melodiq, This is The Time – A Bridge Too Far Recordings

This is the debut EP from Hull, UK based producer Pat D and the Pittsburgh,USA based MC Melodiq. Pat’s influences are Common and the late Jay Dee and you can sense that as the beats are laid back, well sampled, with some jazzy tones and those Dilla-esque drums which Pat seems to be pulling off really well. Pat D has released the album from his own label A Bridge Too Far Recordings and I have to admit this 5 track 12″ does not dissappoint. Melodiq has a real smooth veterans voice and brings to the EP some great lyrics and the guy can actually hold a tune too, when he sings. The two stand out tracks for me had to be Keep On and Mesmerised (So In Love) both of which showcase the talents of both the artists.

Before I forget I must admit the artwork is fantastic and I was also really impressed with both the packaging and the quality of the vinyl, as its becoming rarer these days to find such a well thought about final product. I highly recommend this EP to anyone who enjoys there old school laid back hip hop.
