BTI - Dr Wu’s 4th November 2006
Published by Analogue November 6th, 2006 in Live Reviews. So, having checked out Braintax’s show at the Faversham the night before I had the chance on Saturday to catch the other half of the Lowlife foundation equation playing a free show at Dr Wu’s. Having seen BTI play before I knew it was likely to be a phat show and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
Tom (MC and core member of the group) was supported by a tight four-piece band featuring a drummer, two guitarists and the supremely talented Dan Audio on
sampler and backing vocals.
Initially, the band jammed away for a couple of minutes before Tom came on stage and then it was on with the show. The whole set was fantastic but the tunes I really
recognised were “Never In A Million” and “Mr Bouncer”, which was the first encore of the night.
The second encore and the last track of the night was “Joe”, and some explanation is due here for those who don’t keep up with the UK hip-hop beef gossip.
Braintax and Breaking The Illusion founded Lowlife Records together back in 1992 but Tom hasn’t been involved with the label for some time now and recently released “Joe” - a diss track aimed at Braintax. I don’t want to fuel the fires of any beef that’s still going on between the two - they’re both talented artists and I don’t know what happened between them exactly - but the energy when it’s performed live is undeniable.
Anyway, as the BTI MC said several times on the night, check out his MySpace page and be his friend… I’m sure the band’ll be back out and about, at Dr Wu’s or elsewhere, sometime soon.
